Today we are going to Turangi on the edge of Lake Taupo. First, we’re checking out Opotaka, which is where the Ka Mate Haka was created, otherwise known as the All Blacks Haka. Opotaka is also a great place to see Maori artifacts and get amazing view of Mt Tongariro. After exploring Opotaka in Turangi, we head to Lake Rotopounamu to do the Lake Rotopounamu Track. This Turangi walk is not to be missed on the edge of the Tongariro National Park. Check out this short Tongariro National Park walk.

So what do you think of Opotaka, the Birthplace of the Haka, and Lake Rotopounamu hike in Turangi? Would you add these Turangi activities to your Turangi travel itinerary? LUK in the comments!

  2. Just btw….many New Zealanders have a touch of the Irish. That explains the timing instructions to the beaches. Its perfectly logical. Well, perhaps I can talk, also having Irish heritage! 😀
