Chloe Weigan’s grandfather had no idea that a window on the Royal Caribbean vessel was open when he walked her to a glass wall, the family’s attorney said.

  1. Windows should not be able to open at a Childers play center deck. No exceptions!

  2. The windows appear to be tinted! How did grandpa not realize the one he happened to put her in front of was clear?

  4. When i was younger, my father and uncle took me to the top of the twin towers, they let me go by the window to look out the window while standing damn near on top of it. Looking out the window is just something we humans do. We expect there to be glass there, other wise, whats the point of the window if we can't look out when we please. Windows that open should not be in a child's play area. MC Donald's has play areas and all the windows are sealed shut and most play areas are upstairs.

  5. I think grandpa and the cruise line share the responsibility of this tragedy. I’ve been on tons of cruises and those wall of windows have always been sealed on the decks. The window like the rest of the wall of windows are meant to be sealed shut. I’m SURE every cruise line in the world will make sure of this now! That being said, Grandpa should have been holding onto that baby for dear life..the decision to lift her up onto that railing and let go of her to bang on a window he somehow didn’t realize was open will torment him for life. The lawyer’s comparison with her banging on the ice rink window is NOT even close to the same thing as this.

  8. The window are tinted and very noticeable, i've been on this ship before. He was holding her up there. An open window in the play area isn't the problem, the windows are quite high for a child or an adult to "fall out of" . If the child wasn't placed in front of the window, the child wouldn't have fell. This is a tragedy, but trying to redirect your blame is even worse.

  9. They are wanting money. You can see from the man they don't have much. What a shame to use a child's death for gain. Shame on them.

  19. This was a preventable tragedy and why in the world would you allow your toddler to bang on glass in the first place, is beyond me. People think it's cute when small children bang on glass and other things but ultimately a tragedy such as this will happen. All glass is dangerous! Don't set your children sit on a railing or ledge where they are not supposed to be. And did anyone wonder if the adults had been drinking? How could you not feel a difference in the air temp or a breeze? Something is very off about the whole incident. Yes, I feel for the family but don't blame a cruise line for your neglect. And leave small children at home, they won't remember such a trip anyways.

  21. This is so tragic. My family just returned from a Royal Caribbean cruise so I read all of the paperwork, which includes the Guest Conduct Policy, (Unsafe Behavior section) which specifically says that sitting, standing, laying or climbing on any exterior or interior railing or any other protective barrier designed for guest safety is prohibited. I am an adult and I never get to close to the edge nor even lean on the railing. Everyone cruising should thoroughly read the policies. This is not Royal Caribbean fault.

  22. I'm truly sorry for the family loss but please parents use this tragedy as a teaching moment . PLEASE WATCH YOUR KIDS. I work in retail and I see how reckless people are with children and if you say anything to the parent, they get attitudes. I'm not sure why parents think it's ok to let kids bang on things , but that's you know …… :-/

I'm not saying its 100% the grandfathers fault but come on . At the end of the day your an adult and thats a toddler, you can't let them do whatever they want

  46. Grandpa needs to take responsibility for this. Window or No window he had know business placing a baby any where near a window. I'm so sick of people always blaming and suing. It was his fault period

  47. Wait, he put her up on a railing, and she fell through an open window? Did grandpa just prop her up and walk away? Even if the window was closed, she could still fall backwards off the railing and hurt herself. Why wasn't she being held the whole time?
You couldn't tell the window was open? The glass is tinted green. Is the air tinted green in Puerto Rico?
The Cruise company bears some responsibility, but grandpa was clearly not taking proper care of that baby.
