Some campgrounds have Yurts which are like little cabins. All you need is your sleeping bags. Can use the showers there too.

I’ve thought of driving and staying at a truck stop along the way such for a road trip. Those are actually the safest places to stay if you are in your car because they are well lit, have showers, and food. I never thought of hostels in the US. I have used AirBNB and the one time it was a solo trip to Washington. I felt safer staying at the lady’s guest house. It was a great little place overlooking the water. Super tranquil and private. Some campgrounds have camping cabins such as the KOA campgrounds.

I’m not sure I’m taking lodging advice from y’all. Don’t hate me, but I’ve been watching your vlogs. 😉

We like to sail from Baltimore, we are about an hour out. So we get a hotel near the port the night before which lets us park there and they shuttle us to the port. PERFECT!

I did not get #4, #5 or #6. I felt good when you hit 3 and then you guys hit with that 3. But I guessed all the others. I have done family and friends, hotel and Homeaway (Air -n-nb)

Did the Airbnb once and never will again. It was so awkward sleeping in some stranger's house with them in the next room. They had a list of rules of things we could do and not do. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Our last cruise we spent the night at our vacation home in Arizona and drove to our daughter's house which is 15 minutes from the cruise port in L.A. She drove us to the port.
The cruise before that we flew in and spent the night at my daughter's house.
The cruise before that we actually stayed on the ship. Some cruises the ship is in port for two days. So we flew into Buenos Aires and boarded the ship. The next day we spent the day in Buenos Aires then got on the ship and sailed away.
The cruise before that we flew into Auckland, New Zealand and spent 3 nights at the VR Queen Hotel which was in the city center. Auckland proved to be a wonderful city and worth spending a few days in. I used United frequent flyer miles for the hotel stay. I've used airline miles to pay for the "night before" hotel an a couple cruises.
We also took advantage of being in Auckland to go on excursions not offered by the cruise line, like the glow worm cave.

I've slept at an airport when I was much (much, much, much) younger before another flight out, but not before a cruise.
I'd advocate for a hotel the night before… preferably within walking distance to the cruise terminal… no taxi, no shuttle bus… just walk a couple blocks and you're there!

There are hostels in New Orleans. Roy’s brother stayed in one. It wasn’t terrible but they do have bunk beds!!
