Main EARTHQUAKE HITS In the vicinity of JAMAICA CAYMAN ISLANDS AS CRUISE SHIPS OFFLOAD Passengers

Main EARTHQUAKE HITS In the vicinity of JAMAICA CAYMAN ISLANDS AS CRUISE SHIPS OFFLOAD Passengers A powerful 7.7 earthquake struck the Caribbean this morning amongst Jamaica, Cuba and the Cayman Islands. Cruise ships had been in port in Jamaica and just off shore tendering passengers on to land as the occasion occured. In the Cayman Islands, the Port Authority suspended all tendering solutions on to the island until eventually a tsunami warning handed. 3 cruise ships off the coast all elevated their anchors in situation they required to head to sea to reduce the effect of the tsunami. Thankfully absolutely nothing required to be finished and all tenders resumed their frequent solutions. #royalcaribbean #jamaicaearthquake #travellingwithbruce

  1. The epicenter was 80 miles ESE of Cayman Brac & Little Cayman "Gonave microplate" more on the Oriente fracture which if there was a tsunami it would have hit us within 20 minutes. These 2 Sister Islands are part of the Cayman Islands.

  10. So happy to hear there were no significant injuries anywhere. 7.7 is massive. We definitely felt it even in Miami. Thought it was just something weird in our building though, until heard reports.

  13. I am on the Adventure of the seas now; we were tendered off shore in the Cayman Island; at 2:10 pm this afternoon, I was in my cabin and there was heavy shaking and 2 aftershocks…it was a little scary not knowing what was going on.

  27. We were on a Princess Cruise to Alaska. We were at sea the first night. At about 2 am when the ship rolled side to side to the degree we were thrown out of our beds. The ship continued rocking a bit more and then settled down. Crew were every where telling us all was well and to go back to sleep. The next morning early the Captain came on and advised that we were hut sideways by an underwater tsunami wave but assured us that the only damage was to a light fixture on the top deck and some cocktail glasses. The rest of the cruise was uneventful but returning to Seattle we had to tender at our next to last stop as the port had only one dock and as we came closer we saw a Holland America ship on top of the dock at a severe angle. We found out that the tsunami hit them broadside and lifted the ship on to the dock. A few passengers suffered moderate injuries, were put up on makeshift cots in a warehouse and were waiting for buses to come up from the south to take them to Vancouver to fly home. A skeleton crew remained with the ship for repairs after righting her.
