  4. Actually if you look it up, the 1st Battle Group (aka 1 Aircraft carrier and the ships that travel with it) is over 30 ships. We have 11 Battle Groups at sea at all times. Also, for a better idea of the size… they have 70 feet (21.3m) sticking above the water, and over 30 feet (9m) BELOW the water, so they are roughly 10 stories tall and … very long.

  10. Most top tier militaries lose during war games because they are restricted by a set of rules and have to follow protocol where during battle you will not always follow protocol and may have to do some shitty things to win(nukes are just one example)

  11. HMS QE may only have 15 aircraft at mo but she can launch them all at once,if she had 40 planes they can be launched all at once pretty fast.

Couple things I noticed, he mentioned the fact that US Carriers are nuclear powered and immediately went on about how that increases their range indefinitely, that's not the important aspect of nuclear generators on Carriers because the support ships the will always travel with aren't nuclear powered. That's why Submarines are often nuclear powered, not carriers.

Nuclear generators produce an incredible amount of heat which is used to heat water into steam which will drive turbines that produce electricity. The amount of electricity these ships are able to generate is significantly higher than diesel generators, allowing more liberal use of electronics.

They also use that steam to power their catapults that launch the aircraft. The reason why catapults are so great is that they are able to launch aircraft with a much lower thrust to weight ratio, the kinds of aircraft used for electronic warfare, and early warning systems.

Having the Ski-jump ramp instead of a catapult drastically reduces the aircraft capable of being launched and their max weight limiting the compatible aircraft to only a few fighters high enough thrust to weight. Ski-jumps also require the carrier to move at significant speeds into the wind for the aircraft to generate enough lift to take off. whereas the catapult system doesn't have as many special requirements.

  15. Yeah but just hitting a carrier dont mean you'll sink one they are designed to take massive battle damage and fight on

  16. What nobody ever talks about: One US Air Craft Carriers Task Force is full capable of being the Third strongest Nuclear Power after the United States and Russia. Most of the Fighter/Attack aircraft on the US Carrier can carry Nuclear Smart Bombs/Missiles. You just have to let that sink in for a few minutes. Side note: Japan does not allow Nuclear Weapons in their ports or territorial waters, The US never tells anyone if one of the carriers is armed with Nuclear weapons. The Japanese government gets around this by never asking the direct question to the US and the US gets around it by a standard policy of never telling anyone if the carrier is carrying Nuclear weapons. And you have to remember that each carrier battle group has at least one or two nuclear powered submarine with them sometimes two. Those subs may or may not be carrying Nuclear weapons. So next time you are doing research go down the list of nations that have nuclear weapons and then back up the list to see which nations has more destructive FIRE POWER than a US Navy Carrier Task Force.
